Review: Kashi Veggie Medley Pocket Sandwich

Alright, so here is my first review! I just tried these Kashi Pocket Sandwiches and I am absolutely in LOVE! Honestly, this was probably one of the yummiest frozen foods I've eaten in a long time. Their pocket sandwiches come in three varieties: Chicken Rustico, Turkey Fiesta and Veggie Medley (which is the one I tried).
The Veggie Medley sandwich has red bell peppers, onions, zucchini, mushrooms, yellow carrots, broccoli, sun-dried tomatoes and white beans all in a balsamic basil sauce. The bread is their 7 Whole Grain and Sesame bread. Like I said, this was very taste although the taste doesn't entirely match the description, at least in my opinion.

First off though, is the bread, which was extremely delicious! It smelled really good even when it was still frozen, like fresh toasted multi-grain bread. When it cooked up, it smelled even better and was nice and soft and had a really great flavor. If they sold this dough to make rolls with I would definitely buy it! The veggies were also very good but the only two that I thought really stood up to the sauce taste wise were the peppers and zucchini. I saw all of the vegetables in there but the biggest tastes were those two vegetables, the sauce and the beans. As for the beans, they added a nice variation in texture with the veggies (and a nice boost of protein!)

Now, this is where I don't entirely agree with the description of the sauce, I tasted basil and tomatoes (I included the tomatoes with the sauce because it tasted like tomato sauce not balsamic basil)... but I can't say that there was even a hint of balsamic taste in this sandwich.
Besides the taste, the sandwich was a pretty good size. Mine was 5 1/2 inches long and 3 inches across. I was actually surprised by the size, I thought it was going to be tiny based on the size of the box. I ate this with a few cherry tomatoes (from our garden!), a big plum and a cup of fat-free yogurt and I was completely satisfied.
Nutrition wise there are three main things I look for when buying pre-packaged food: low saturated fat, high fiber and high protein. This sandwich does not disappoint, it contains only 1 gram of saturated fat, 6 grams of fiber (almost a quarter of the amount recommended daily for adults!) and 10 grams of protein. It also has Vitamins A & C as well as some calcium and iron.
I probably won't try the other varieties because they contain meat but if you are a meat eater check them out and let me know how they are!

First Post/Introduction

Well, I've been reading food blogs (review blogs and cooking blogs) for at least a year now and finally got up the guts and motivation to start one of my own. I guess the best place to start is with an introduction of myself and a description of what I hope to include in this blog as well.

First off, a little about me! I'm a 21 year old vegetarian (I've been a vegetarian since I was 13 but I do occasionally indulge in poultry [chicken or turkey] so I guess I am not yet a true vegetarian). About a year ago I was unhappy with the way I looked so I embarked on a weight loss journey. I shed 80 lbs and now I am just trying to eat healthy to maintain my weight loss! Right now, I work as a nanny to two wonderful boys and I live at home (in New Jersey) with my parents and my dog Glory.

So, onto what I wish to include in this blog. I would love to do a combination of reviews of healthy grocery store finds and healthy recipes. I really don't have much experience with cooking (for example I'm a vegetarian who has never cooked with tofu!) so I thought this would be a good motivation to try my hand at cooking new things.

Hopefully I didn't make this first post too long, and thank you for checking out my new blog!
